Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, within the framework of his visit to Kabul, held a series of meetings with senior officials of the Afghan government on Sunday. The sides discussed the intensification of the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline and the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line.
The sides also exchanged views on political and economic ties and discussed the security situation and the supply of humanitarian aid. Issues of intensifying the work of the railroad from Turkmenistan to some Afghan provinces were also touched upon during the talks, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.
During the meeting with the top Turkmen diplomat, Abdul Salam Hanafi, the acting Deputy Afghan Prime Minister, said "we want to launch national projects between the two countries as soon as possible, because all necessary conditions, including security, are in place for their implementation”.
In constructive talks of the Turkmen official with acting Afghan Defense Minister Mohammad Yaqoob and acting Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Afghan side pledged to ensure the security of all joint economic projects, according to the statement.
"We will spare no effort to ensure the security of infrastructure and economic projects between the two countries," the Afghan defense chief Mohammad Yaqoob stated.
During his visit to Kabul, the Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov also met with acting Prime Minister of Afghanistan Mohammad Hassan Akhund and acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki.
