Turkmen Businesses Eye 245 Thousand Tons of Fruit, Vegetable Production
Turkmen businesses are expected to plant vegetables and gourds on nearly 9.2 thousand hectares of land this year.

Turkmen businesses are expected to plant fruits and vegetables on a total area of over 22,400 hectares this year and harvest around 245,000 tons of crops from them, the head of the local business union Dovran Hudayberdiyev told in his briefing to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during the working meeting on the state of affairs in the country’s trade complex held online on Thursday.

The Chairman of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET) Hudayberdiyev briefed on the activities of local businesses to ensure food and commodity abundance in the country, production of import-substituting products, increase the number and range of export-oriented products, and to create new jobs, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

The UIET Chairman informed about the planned planting of vegetables and gourds on nearly 9.2 thousand hectares of land and harvesting of over 174.4 thousand tons of crops from them. He also said the Turkmen producers aim to harvest over 70.5 thousand tons of fruits from more than 13.2 thousand hectares of plantations of fruit trees and grapes.

The UIET member-businesses operate greenhouses with a total area of 530.54 hectares, the Union’s Chairman stated, adding that their 500 hectares will grow tomatoes for the 2021-2022 harvest season with the expectation of collecting 85 thousand tons of crops. Most of the grown products are expected to be exported, he said.

The UIET head also informed about the construction of dozens of refrigerated warehouses by Turkmen businesses.

Following the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed the importance of continuing to provide the country's population with a wide range of products, relying on the foundation of private business, and addressed numerous instructions to Hudayberdiyev in this regard. The Head of State particularly instructed to take measures to create agricultural, food and industrial production through the active implementation of investment projects.
