Turkmen, Iranian Customs Officials Discuss Digitalization of Road Transport System
The main topic of discussion was the creation of a single customs post for joint customs control, and the possibility of introducing the e-TIR system to this end

The Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan held talks with senior representatives of the Iranian Customs Administration in Tehran on Saturday. The sides considered the issue of digitalization of the road transport system by expanding the participants of the e-TIR project.

The Turkmen and Iranian parties focused on discussion of the state and prospects for the development of bilateral customs cooperation. The sides touched upon such issues as preliminary data exchange between services, exchange of the list of prohibited goods, acceleration of the movement of perishable goods, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

The main topic of discussion was the creation of a single customs post for joint customs control, and the possibility of introducing the e-TIR system to this end.

The absence of a paper medium during the transportation of e-TIR will significantly simplify the work of both customs authorities and carriers, and will also help to reduce transaction costs, speed up and make it more secure due to the availability of a reliable real-time electronic database, according to the report.

The use of the e-TIR in the countries of Central Asia is expected to simplify the procedures for crossing state borders, reduce transportation times, as well as the costs of carriers.
