Berdimuhamedov Meets Kyrgyz President on Sidelines of Turkic Council Summit

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart Sadyr Japarov on the sidelines of the eighth Turkic Council summit on Friday in Istanbul. The Heads of State discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation.

The Presidents exchanged views on issues of trade-economic interaction, as well as cooperation in the energy sector, the press service of the Head of Kyrgyzstan reports.

President Sadyr Japarov highlighted the clear intensification of bilateral Kyrgyz-Turkmen contacts this year and expressed confidence on the timely implementation of the agreements reached during the previous summit meetings.

The Head of Kyrgyzstan focused on the issues of trade and economic cooperation, diversification of trade between the two states, noting the potential of increasing mutual trade. He also confirmed the readiness of the Kyrgyz side to carry out necessary measures to further strengthen and develop bilateral cooperation.

In turn, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted the development of bilateral cooperation and expressed interest in increasing interaction with Kyrgyzstan, both in bilateral and multilateral formats.

In June, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Sadyr Japarov agreed to strengthen cooperation between the countries in the fuel and energy sector and instructed the relevant state structures to work out the issue of supplies of natural gas, electricity and liquefied gas from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan. Under the agreements reached, Turkmenistan will supply 501.9 million kWh of electricity to Kyrgyzstan until December 2021.
