Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov in a meeting with a delegation of the World Health Organization (WHO) led by WHO Regional Emergency Director for Europe Dorit Nitzan in Ashgabat on Monday voiced number of proposals of the Turkmen side.
Among the initiatives of the Turkmen side are creation of a Central Asian Regional Center of Epidemiology, Virology and Bacteriology, as well as a decision to build a Research and Production Center of Epidemiology, Virology and Bacteriology in Turkmenistan, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.
The parties discussed a wide range of issues related to the further implementation of the agreements reached during the meeting of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the WHO Regional Director for Europe Dr. Hans Kluge.
The officials also exchanged views on the draft roadmap for cooperation between Turkmenistan and WHO, and discussed issues of organizing regular high-level meetings in order to accelerate the implementation of joint agreements.
The sides also discussed the proposal of the WHO Regional Director for Europe on the application of the concept of One Health Care in the planning and promotion of the project of the Regional Center of Epidemiology, as well as the proposals to improve the activities of the primary national healthcare unit and the development of the health information base and digital medicine.
The Minister expressed confidence that the current visit of the high-ranking WHO delegation will further promote and strengthen cooperation between Turkmenistan, the WHO and the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
In a meeting with the WHO Regional Director for Europe in October, the Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov said Turkmenistan aims to further develop and strengthen cooperation with the WHO.
