Turkmenistan offered the Kyrgyz Republic to consider using the capacity of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport for the transportation of goods in the East-West-East direction. The proposal was made during the fifth meeting of the Turkmen-Kyrgyz Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Humanitarian Cooperation held online on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by heads and representatives of relevant ministries, sectoral departments and business circles of the two countries, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.
The sides made proposals on joint work on a transport corridor designed to connect the two countries and provide access to the Caspian Sea.
The parties discussed and outlined specific steps designed to contribute to the diversification of partnership in the trade-economic sphere, and to increase the volume of mutual trade. They also noted the need to take additional measures aimed at increasing export-import operations and expanding the range of supplied goods and services, building ties in the field of investments, as well as establishing direct contacts between businesses of both states.
Stressing the importance of developing these promising areas, the commission members stated that the promotion of direct links between the two countries' business communities, expansion and deepening of industrial cooperation and creation of joint ventures have been and will remain a key aspect of the work.
At the end of the Turkmen-Kyrgyz Intergovernmental Commission meeting, the sides signed the relevant protocol.
