Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to India to celebration of the country’s Republic Day and the India-Central Asia high-level summit, according to the letter of head of the Indian government addressed to Berdimuhamedov, published in the official Turkmen press on Thursday.

In his message, Narendra Modi said India and Turkmenistan have traditionally close historical and cultural relations.

"I was fortunate to visit your beautiful country in 2015. Your visit to India in 2010 laid a solid foundation for further development of the partnership between India and Turkmenistan. Our bilateral and regional cooperation has also intensified under the India-Central Asia dialogue established in 2019," Modi said in his letter.

The head of the Indian government also said the coming year, 2022, will be significant for India and Turkmenistan, which will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Narendra Modi said next year will also be a historic year for India, when the 75th anniversary of independence of the Indian state will be celebrated.

"I would like to cordially invite you to visit India as the guest of honor for the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi on January 26, 2022. We would also be honored to host a contingent of your Armed Forces for the Republic Day parade," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

He also stressed that India views Central Asia in the context of a broad neighborhood and is committed to a strong and dynamic partnership with the region.

"Taking advantage of the presence of Central Asian leaders at India's Republic Day celebrations, I also propose organizing an India-Central Asia high level summit to discuss collective approaches to common challenges in the region that will take our relationship to a new level," Narendra Modi said in the letter.

Republic Day of India is a holiday when the country marks and celebrates the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on January 26, 1950.

Turkmenistan and India had established diplomatic ties in 1992.
