Presently, 188 greenhouse complexes are under construction in Turkmenistan, the official media of Turkmenistan reported on Monday with reference to the statistical data provided by the major business union of the country – Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET).
The total area of the greenhouses under construction are 1,792 hectares. They are currently at various stages of completion of installation and commissioning works.
Turkmen vegetable growers harvest around 1.58 thousand tons of cucumber and 520 tons of bell and spicy peppers a year. Last year, the country for the first time harvested 60 tons of bananas.
During the first 11 months of 2021, the private agriculture producers of the country exported over 51.3 thousand tons of greenhouse tomatoes worth more than $56 million.
The UIET member-businesses presently operate greenhouses with a total area of 530.54 hectares.
