Deputy Chairman of Turkmen Government Serdar Berdimuhamedov has been nominated to run in early presidential elections that will take place in March 12.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov was nominated for the country’s highest state post by the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan at its extraordinary congress held in Ashgabat on Monday, the country’s official media reports.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov graduated from the S. A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University in 2001 with a degree in engineer-technologist. Being also a specialist in international relations, he has gained a vast managerial experience during his career, holding such positions as Chairman of the Mejlis Committee, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy and then Governor of Ahal velayat, Minister of Industry and Construction Production, Chairman of the Supreme Control Chamber, member of the State Security Council and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
Addressing the congress participants, Serdar Berdimuhamedov assured that if he is elected President, he will spare no efforts for the sake of Turkmenistan and prosperity of the people, diligently and creatively implement the historical initiatives of the Turkmen Leader.
The main objective of all my concerns will always be the happy life of our people, turning our state into a progressive country of a new era, Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.
As part of the nomination campaign, the names of other contenders to the high state office will be known soon.
Speaking at a Halk Maslahaty meeting on Friday, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said he had made a decision to give way to young leaders and entrust them with the state affairs at the new stage of development of the country.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov intends to further direct his huge life and political experience to his post of Chairman of Halk Maslahaty.
