Deputy Chairman of Turkmen Government, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov will visit Russian and hold talks with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on February 22, the Spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said on a Wednesday briefing.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson added that the parties plan to discuss key topics of Russian-Turkmen cooperation, topical issues of regional and international agendas, as well as interaction between the two countries in multilateral formats (CIS, UN, OSCE, Caspian Five).
“We regard the upcoming visit as an important component of a set of measures to strengthen bilateral relations, which is being implemented in the framework of the Treaty on Strategic Partnership between our countries, which was concluded on October 2, 2017,” Zaharova stated during the briefing.
The top diplomats of Turkmenistan and Russia previously held talks in Moscow in April last year. The ministers discussed security matters, including environmental security, cooperation in political-diplomatic field, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres and issues of cooperation within the framework of international structures.
Turkmenistan and Russia established diplomatic ties in April 1992.
