Polling stations all over Turkmenistan opened at 07:00 on Saturday for the early presidential elections. The polls will end at 19:00.
Nine candidates are running for the highest state post of the country.
According to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Turkmenistan, citizens can vote in 2,577 polling stations across Turkmenistan and 41 polling stations in 30 countries.
More than 3.43 million voters in Turkmenistan were registered for the presidential elections. Also, 23,840 voters were registered abroad.
The Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan said that as of 11:00, 51,05% of registered voters have cast their ballots.
In addition to 2,620 national observers, international observers are alos monitoring the elections. Voting is broadcast online on the CEC website. In addition, information on the holding of the presidential elections is broadcast live on national television and radio. Representatives of foreign mass media also participate in the coverage of the elections.
The inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of Turkmenistan will be held at the Oguzhan Palace Complex in capital Ashgabat on March 19.
