The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Turkmenistan on Wednesday handed over a new batch of test systems for PCR diagnostics of virus causing COVID-19 to the Ministry of Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan.
The delivery of 193 thousand tests worth more than 998 thousand euros was carried out under the Turkmenistan COVID-19 Response Project funded by the World Bank, the UNDP said in its press release.
The $20 million project is being implemented by the UNDP and the Ministry of Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan with the UNICEF and the WHO office in Turkmenistan to help the country strengthen preparedness and response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The project aims to strengthen national testing and treatment capacities, improve the skills of medical workers, procure reagents, medicines and medical equipment, and address social and health risks associated with the pandemic. The project also supports introduction of digital solutions for surveillance of infectious diseases.
