Astrakhan’s Governor Proposes to Start Astrakhan-Turkmenbashi Regular Flights

Governor of Russia’s Astrakhan Oblast Igor Babushkin during the talks with Turkmenistan's Vice-Premier, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov on Saturday in Ashgabat suggested that the Turkmen side organize tours to Avaza tourist zone and start Astrakhan-Turkmenbashi regular flights.

Igor Babushkin visited the Turkmen capital as a member of the Russian delegation headed by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, Ast-news.ru reports.

The meeting also discussed expansion of mutual trade and development of cooperation in transport and logistics. The parties considered matters regarding the creation of a logistics center of Turkmenistan in the Astrakhan oblast and opening of a permanent ferry service between the ports of Olya and Turkmenbashi.

An agreement was reached to promote the products of Astrakhan fish farmers such as caviar, canned fish, dried and fresh-frozen fish in the Turkmen market. The talks also touched the topic of the reproduction of sturgeon and salmon species to preserve the biodiversity of the Caspian Sea and commercial production.

At the meeting of the Astrakhan's Governor with the Head of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammetkhan Chakiyev, the sides discussed shipbuilding, in particular the fulfillment of orders for Turkmen enterprises by Astrakhan enterprises.
