The Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty chamber of bicameral parliament of Turkmenistan Milli Gengesh Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has become a member of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) as the Elder of Turkmenistan, the OTS announced on Friday.
The organization said the participation of Berdimuhamedov in the Council of Elders, an advisory body of the OTS, will give a new impetus to the contribution of Turkmenistan to deepening of multifaceted cooperation in the Turkic World in political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
“Secretariat of Organization of Turkic States is honored by the appointment of H.E. G. Berdimuhamedov as the member of OTS Council of Elder and believes that His Excellency will further enrich the Council of Elders’ potential with his wisdom, experience and knowledge while playing a significant role in increasing the visibility of the Organization,” the OTS said in the statement.
Turkmenistan joined the OTS as an observer in November last year.
