Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov during the online cabinet meeting on Saturday conveyed to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov the news of Turkmenistan’s election as Vice-President of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Turkmenistan was elected to the position by unanimous decision the UN General Assembly, the official Turkmen media reports.
The Foreign Minister congratulated the President Berdimuhamedov on this significant event and wished the Head of State good health, long life and successes in his state activities.
Speaking with satisfaction about the good news that came to Turkmenistan from the UN Headquarters, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov cordially congratulated everyone on the remarkable event of Turkmenistan's unanimous election as Vice-President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
The Head of State said we regard this as eloquent evidence that the foreign policy of the Turkmenistan, which is based on the principles of positive neutrality, is widely supported by the international community.
This clearly demonstrates the enormous interest and full support for the foreign policy and current initiatives of Turkmenistan on the part of all countries of the world and authoritative international organizations, primarily the UN, the President added.
Once again congratulating his fellow countrymen on the news, the Head of State wished them good health, prosperity and great successes in their work for the sake of prosperity of the neutral Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, Meredov also said the Ashgabat Declaration of the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Central Asia countries and the Russian Federation, held on the initiative of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty chamber of Turkmen bicameral parliament Milli Gengesh, in Ashgabat on May 12 was published as an official document of the 76th session of UN General Assembly.
The UN General Assembly is one of the six main organs of the UN and the only one of the UN with representatives from all the 193 member states. Other countries elected as vice-presidents of the 77th UN General Assembly session are Benin, Burundi, Kenya, Mauritania, Niger, Zimbabwe, Malaysia, Nepal, Vietnam, Tajikistan, Chile, El Salvador, Jamaica, Estonia, Israel and Australia.
