Turkmenistan Can Claim Share of Investment in Reducing Greenhouse Emissions
The International Scientific Conference “Environmental aspects in the production of hydrocarbon resources” kicked off in Ashgabat.

To achieve the declared Global Goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the next 30 years, the volume of world investments, the volume of the global market of such projects will be more than 275 trillion dollars, part of which can claim Turkmenistan.

Igor Zgurov, Member of the Board of Directors of Singapore-based Yug-Neftegaz Private Limited, made the remarks during the International Scientific Conference “Environmental aspects in the production of hydrocarbon resources” in Ashgabat on Thursday.

"Turkmenistan, as a country with a great potential for the adoption of projects to modernize and implement projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the oil and gas sector, has a unique opportunity not only to take an active part in the carbon market, but also to participate in the formation of rules and procedures that will meet the technical and technological features of the oil and gas sector in the region," Igor Zgurov said.

"At the same time, it is important to emphasize the need to form national rules and procedures at the legislative level, which will provide an opportunity for enterprises and companies of Turkmenistan to participate in the market mechanisms of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement," Zgurov added.

The international conference is organized by the Türkmengaz (Turkmen Gas) and Türkmennebit (Turkmen Oil) state concerns, in partnership with the Turkmen Forum and the UK-based GaffneyCline.
