Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan Discuss Energy Cooperation
During the talks both sides expressed readiness to continue cooperation.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov discussed cooperation in the energy sector with the Azerbaijani delegation, led by Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov in Ashgabat on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan said in its press release.

"The importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector and diversification of energy supply schemes to international markets was emphasized," the ministry said in the statement.

The Turkmen Foreign Ministry recalled a memorandum of understanding signed in January 2021 between the governments of the two countries on joint exploration and development of Dostluk hydrocarbon field in the Caspian Sea.

"In this regard, the Turkmen side expressed readiness to continue bilateral consultations on several energy areas of cooperation," the Turkmen Foreign Ministry added.

The Foreign Ministry stated that during the talks both sides expressed readiness to continue cooperation taking into account the existing potential.

Azerbaijan currently imports Turkmen natural gas in accordance with the trilateral gas swap agreement between Turkmenistan, Iran and Azerbaijan. The discussion are currently underway to increase the swap supplies of Turkmen natural gas to Azerbaijan and establish new swap gas deliveries to other countries.
