The heads of customs services of Turkmenistan and Iran in a meeting at the Artyk-Lutfabad border checkpoint on Wednesday expressed initiatives and proposals aimed at developing trade relations between the countries and simplifying customs procedures.
The meeting discussed at the initiative of the Iranian side such issues as adjusting the amount of fees for the arrival and transit of vehicles, the organization of meetings of the heads of customs posts at the border of the two sides, Turkmenistan’s Watan Habarlary news program reports.
The sides also considered issues of adjusting work schedules of checkpoints in accordance with the flow of goods, implementation of the TIR system of the International Road Transport Union, establishment of authorized operators, and organization of joint training activities to improve the skills of customs officials.
Within the framework of the meeting, the Iranian side was familiarized in detail with the decontamination facilities of the Artyk customs post located at the state border of Turkmenistan, x-ray diagnostic equipment for vehicles, equipment used in the inspection of goods and vehicles, as well as the work carried out in the fight against violations of customs rules.
The sides also discussed the establishment of periodic exchange of information between Turkmenistan and Iran on the prices of goods transported in mutual trade, implementation of measures for the implementation of the TIR Carnet for goods transported between the countries.
As a result of the meeting, it was agreed to develop a plan of joint activities and coordinate through diplomatic channels.
