The officials of ministries and agencies of Turkmenistan has completed the first series of trainings dedicated to Turkmenistan's accession process to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The series of online trainings on legal aspects of WTO and accession process were conducted by International Trade Center (ITC) for representatives of the Government Commission on Issues Related to Turkmenistan's Accession to the WTO. They were held in April-August months of 2022, in the framework of the Ready4Trade Central Asia project funded by the European Union (EU) and with the participation of the WTO Secretariat, the ITC announced in its Monday press release.
The trainings covered a wide range of topics, including the main rules and principles of the WTO legal system, as well as selected rules governing trade in services, agriculture and intellectual property rights. Participants also had the opportunity to discuss the documentation requirements for participation in the accession negotiations.
Turkmenistan’s official application to join the WTO was formally received on November 24, 2021. In February 2022, Turkmenistan was granted the status of an acceding country (active observer) to the WTO.
