According to preliminary data, 75 thousand tons of greenhouse tomatoes have been exported from Turkmenistan to Russia and other countries since the beginning of the year.
This amount is almost twice more than during the same period last year, the official Turkmen media reported on Saturday.
Turkmen businesses intend to export another 20-25 thousand tons of tomatoes in September-December.
According to the Agricultural Department of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan, the yield of tomatoes grown in the country has exceeded domestic market demands several times.
Turkmen tomatoes are successfully sold in Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan, according to the report.
Dozens of Turkmen private producers grow vegetables indoors on an area of more than 670 hectares.
In addition to tomatoes, vegetable growers have harvested a high crop of grains. About six thousand tons of them were sent to foreign consumers. This year, the businesses have also exported a hundred tons of seeds of sesame, pistachio, jugaru, beans and clover.
The official media said Turkmen vegetable and tomato growers will export products worth about $100 million this year.
