Ashgabat to Host Meeting of TAPI Project Steering Committee
The sides discussed the implementation of the agreed measures of the TAPI project between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan and the beginning of the project in Afghan soil.

Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat will host meeting of the steering committee of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project at the state level in the near future, Muhammetmyrat Amanov, the Executive Director of TAPI Pipeline Company Limited, said in a meeting with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan for Economic Affairs, on Sunday in Kabul.

The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Afghanistan Hoja Ovezov also attended the meeting, according to the press release of the Afghan Government.

The sides discussed the implementation of the agreed measures of the TAPI project between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan and the beginning of the project in Afghan soil.

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar described the current situation in Afghanistan as a favorable opportunity and stated that the Afghan side is fully ready to begin the TAPI project and is committed to any form of collaboration in this area.

Baradar Akhund is leading the Afghan side in the TAPI project steering committee.

The TAPI pipeline is expected to carry 33 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas each year along a route stretching 1,800 km from Galkynysh, the world's second-biggest gas field in Turkmenistan, to the Indian city of Fazilka near the Pakistan border.
