Cooperation on natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan to Türkiye and further to the world markets should be based on guarantees of reliability and security, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov said during the first summit of Heads of State of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Türkiye in Turkmenistan’s Avaza National Tourist Zone on Wednesday.
In a meeting with Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Head of Turkmenistan said all three countries support the formation of a coordinated and multi-variant system of energy supplies to world markets, the official Turkmen media reports.
President Berdimuhamedov added that the tripartite cooperation in the gas sector, diversification of supply routes and their functioning should be based on clear standards that take into account multilateral interests, as well as guarantees of reliability and security.
During the summit, Turkish President Erdogan called for the start of work on natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Europe.
Following the summit, the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in a joint press conference with his Turkmen and Azerbaijani counterparts informed that the countries will set up a working group on the issue of transporting Turkmen gas to other markets.
The first summit of the Heads of State of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Türkiye resulted in the signing of a number of documents on the further development of relations between the countries.
