Turkmenistan Interested in Holding Bilateral Consultations With US

Turkmenistan is interested in holding bilateral consultations with the United States as soon as possible, the US Department of State reported, citing Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov as saying before a meeting with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana.

Meredov noted that Turkmenistan and the United States have a very good and effective mechanism for annual bilateral consultations (ABC) and expressed interest in organizing such consultations to discuss important bilateral cooperation and regional issues.

In turn, Blinken said the US looks forward to working with Turkmenistan to address some regional and global issues such as climate change, creating stronger economic prosperity and opportunity for people, and addressing regional security issues.

In a meeting, the diplomats discussed options for partnering on the climate crisis, security, and economic growth initiatives.

On Tuesday, Astana hosted a C5+1 ministerial meeting of foreign ministers of Central Asian countries and the US. The meeting discussed a wide range of issues, including cooperation on food security, combating terrorism, energy and environment.
