Azerbaijan’s Baku seaport has opened a berth for cargo from Central Asia, online news outlet Tazabek reported on Tuesday with reference to a statement by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Latif Seyfaddin oglu Gandilov at the international forum “Transport Corridors in Central Asia: New Opportunities for Kyrgyzstan”.
The envoy has also stated that Azerbaijan has established ferry lines with the cities of Aktau (Kazakhstan) and Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan).
The Ambassador noted that the formation of new transport corridors does not create competition for existing routes, but complements them. Transit through Baku opens two routes – to the countries of Southern and Eastern Europe and to the countries of Northern Europe.
Two ships started operating between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku at the beginning of the last year. Regular operation of the ships was launched in order to improve transport connectivity on the section of the second China-Europe route across the Caspian Sea.
