Turkmenistan will host a meeting of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in the field of transport, Trend News Agency reported on Friday with reference to UNECE.
The UNECE working group on transport intends to hold the meeting in Turkmenistan alongside the event on digital system of international customs transit (TIR) in 2023.
Turkmenistan is among the beneficiaries of a project to enhance the capacity of UNECE member states to decarbonize the transport sector by increasing the use of natural gas as a motor fuel.
The project aims to develop and disseminate recommendations and policy guidelines that, if fully implemented, will effectively increase the share of natural gas in road transport, which will significantly reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector, according to the report.
The UNECE was established in 1947 by the United Nations Economic and Social Council and brings together 56 countries. The main goal of the UNECE is to promote pan-European economic integration.
