Tashkent Hosts First Meeting of Afghanistan's Neighboring States’ Special Representatives

The first meeting of special representatives of the neighboring countries of Afghanistan was held in Tashkent on Monday, UzDaily web edition reported.

The event gathered representatives of Uzbekistan, Iran, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Russia.

Participants discussed the current situation in Afghanistan and placed key emhpasis on the rapid provision of humanitarian aid to the country, involvement of Afghanistan in the process of regional interconnectedness.

The delegations welcomed Uzbekistan's initiative to create a high-level international negotiating group under UN auspices to prepare and agree with the Afghan authorities an algorithm for the phased implementation of the parties' obligations.

Representatives of states agreed to hold the 4th meeting of heads of foreign ministries of Afghanistan's neighboring countries in Uzbekistan in accordance with the Tunxi Declaration.
