Top Turkmen Diplomat Meets Tajik President in Dushanbe

Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, held a meeting with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon at the Palace of Nation in Dushanbe on Thursday.

President Emomali Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the two countries, which has been steadily expanding to cover various areas of mutual interest, the Press Service of the President of Tajikistan said in its statement.

During the discussions, it was proposed to intensify the work of the Tajik-Turkmen intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation and the work of the Trade Council.

Development and expansion of cooperation in the field of transport and cargo transportation, establishment of industrial enterprises and use of transport corridors of Turkmenistan were considered promising areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The sides also discussed the current state of cooperation of the two countries within international organizations, including the United Nations, Commonwealth of Independent States, International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, consultative meetings of heads of Central Asian states.

At the end, the parties discussed the schedule of forthcoming bilateral meetings and talks.

During his visit to Dushanbe, Rashid Meredov also held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirodjiddin Mukhriddin to discuss preparations for the forthcoming state visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Tajikistan, which is scheduled for the first half of April.
