Organization for Cooperation of Railways (OSJD) will hold the meeting of representatives of the Parties to its Agreement on International Transit Tariff (ITT) in Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat in May this year.
Mammethan Chakiyev, the General Director of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, reported on the holding of the meeting during the online government meeting hosted by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Friday, according to the country’s official media.
On the agenda of the event, which the OSJD is planning to hold Turkmenistan for the first time, are the intensification of transit in international traffic, improvement of the Agreement on International Railway Freight Communications (SMGS) and ensuring competitiveness of transit freight traffic by rail.
Following the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan is an important link in major international transit corridors with a developed railway infrastructure, and that it has established mutually beneficial cooperation with foreign countries and international organizations in the transport sector, including with the OSJD. In this regard, the Head of State addressed instructions to ensure that the forthcoming meeting would be held at a high level.
During the meeting, Mammethan Chakiyev also reported on the measures being taken in Turkmenistan to create international transport corridors.
