Uzbek entrepreneurs visited the Turkmenbashi International Seaport during a business trip to Turkmenistan to learn about its infrastructure, cargo-handling capacity and services for export and import shipments, according to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.
The visit was attended by Odilkhon Rustamov, Deputy chairman of the Uzbek chamber, and Parakhat Jumayev, Head of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport. Uzbek business representatives were briefed on existing transport routes, logistics services and tariff incentives available to entrepreneurs.
The Turkmenbashi International Seaport was commissioned on May 2, 2018. The project cost more than $1.5 billion. The port covers more than 150 hectares and has a designed annual cargo-handling capacity of 17 million tons, excluding petroleum products. It is also designed to handle 400,000 containers (TEU), serve 75,000 trucks and accommodate 300,000 passengers annually.
Entrepreneurs are offered tariff benefits and discounts on cargo storage, loading, unloading and transportation. These incentives help reduce logistics costs associated with export and import operations.
Following the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for increasing cargo transportation volumes and strengthening business ties between entrepreneurs from the two countries.
