President of Turkmenistan, President of the National Olympic Committee of the country Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during a solemn ceremony in Ashgabat’s Olympic village awarded Turkmen athlete Yulduz Jumabayeva the gold medal for winning the 2018 World Championships after the results were revised for the event, the country’s official media reports.
Members of the Government and the State Security Council, heads of ministries and sectoral departments, public organizations, representatives of the diplomatic corps, the media, rectors of universities, and Turkmen athletes took part in the ceremony held at the Martial Arts Complex of the Olympic Village.
“We have gathered to reward the athlete of the national team Yulduz Jumabayeva, who was recognized by the International Weightlifting Federation as the world champion among athletes in the 45 kg weight category,” President Berdimuhamedov said during the ceremony and emphasized that the Turkmen athlete was awarded two gold medals in the competition, setting a world record in this sport category.
In his speech during the ceremony, President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Dr. Michael Irani said the IWF, together with the International Investigative Agency and the World Anti-Doping Agency, is making great efforts to combat doping so that the sport remains clean and fair. At the same time, he noted that that the IWF welcomes the active position of Turkmenistanin this direction.
The awarding ceremony was also held at the Sport hotel in the capital's Olympic village, where the Presidential Decree on awarding the athlete was presented. The student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Yulduz Jumabayeva was awarded the medal "Watana bolan söýgüsi üçin" (For love of the Fatherland), according to the Presidential Decree. She also received a 2020 white Lexus LX570 Sport Plus car as a gift.
During the ceremony, the coach-teacher of the weightlifting section of the School of Higher Sports Excellence of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy Meretguly Sahetmyradov was also awarded with the medal “Watana bolan söýgüsi üçin”.
For the preparation of athletes who won prizes in international competitions, coach-teacher Sahetmyradov was also handed the keys to a new apartment, according to the Presidential Decree.
With another Decree of the President of Turkmenistan, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country Berdiniyaz Myatiyev was awarded the medal “Gaýrat” (Diligence) for his great labor achievements in state and social activities.
