The first container train to Saudi Arabia from Chelyabinsk-Gruzovoy station of the South Urals Railway (SUR) will pass through the territory of Turkmenistan, the TASS news agency reported on Tuesday with reference to the press service of the South Ural Railway.
According to the report, the train, which follows the North-South ITC, will also pass through the territories of Kazakhstan and Iran. The operator of the service is Russian Railways Logistics.
The freight train consists of 42 containers that contain energy equipment and non-ferrous metals, sent for export.
According to the press-service of SUR, the train runs on a specialized line of the schedule designed for freight transportation along the route, using accelerated delivery.
Participants of International economic forum "Russia - Islamic world: KazanForum" that took place on May 18-19 in Kazan, discussed details of large-scale development project of North – South international transport corridor. The project includes increasing of container freight traffic by 15 - 30 times.
