Kyrgyzstan Intends to Extend Electricity Import From Turkmenistan

Representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan held a meeting with a delegation from the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic, visiting Ashgabat from May 3rd to 6th, 2024. The parties discussed extending contractual relations for the supply of electricity from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan for the year 2025 on mutually acceptable terms.

As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, the meeting participants confirmed their intention to promote cooperation between the ministries of the two countries, expressed readiness to maintain regular contacts, and provide mutual assistance on energy issues.

In order to further develop partnership in the energy sector, the head of the Kyrgyz delegation, General Director of OJSC "NES Kyrgyzstan" Altynbay Rysbekov, invited the Turkmen side to participate in the International Energy Forum on the Investment Potential of the Kyrgyz Republic, which will take place on June 10-11 of the current year in Vienna, Austria.

Turkmenistan has been exporting electricity to Kyrgyzstan since August 2021. In 2024, Kyrgyzstan plans to import 1.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from Turkmenistan.
