Following bilateral negotiations in Astana, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan discussed the possibility of establishing joint ventures at new gas fields, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu after a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, Kazinform agency reports on Monday.
According to the report, the head of Kazakhstan's foreign ministry noted that the country has offered Turkmenistan a number of proposals for the exchange of advanced technologies for gas extraction, processing, and transportation.
Nurtleu also emphasized that Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have agreed to increase the volume of freight transportation between the ports of Aktau and Turkmenbashi. Over the past three years, the volume of cargo transshipment on this route has increased by 50 percent.
On the same day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, met with the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in Astana.
