Turkmenistan, ECO Discuss Strengthening Key Transport Corridors

On Thursday, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov met with the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Asad Majeed Khan. The primary topic of discussion was enhancing the potential of the North-South and East-West transport and transit corridors, as well as stimulating cross-border economic activity.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, both parties emphasized the activation of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the ECO, paying special attention to key areas of collaboration, such as energy, transport, communications, trade and economic integration, digitization, and cultural ties. The necessity of strengthening the international legal framework within the ECO was also highlighted, along with discussions on Turkmenistan's contribution to the organization’s human resources.

Special attention was given to the international recognition of the city of Arkadag, where innovative technologies are being actively implemented. The ECO Secretary General expressed interest in holding high-level ECO events in Arkadag, focused on sustainable development.

Additionally, the meeting addressed preparations for upcoming events involving the ECO.

On the same day, Rashid Meredov also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Jan Lipavský.
