Meeting between Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, October 15, 2024, Islamabad

Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss the current state of bilateral relations and future cooperation prospects, according to Turkmenistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The talks covered key areas of Turkmen-Pakistani collaboration, including political, economic, and humanitarian sectors. Both parties expressed their commitment to further strengthening their partnership in these fields.

Particular emphasis was placed on the implementation of major international projects such as the TAPI (Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India) gas pipeline and the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line. Both sides confirmed the necessity of finalizing the necessary documentation to advance these initiatives.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of joint activities in the transport and logistics sectors. Turkmenistan is currently working with major Pakistani companies, including the National Logistics Corporation (NLC), a partnership that is expected to significantly boost freight volumes along the China–Pakistan–Afghanistan–Turkmenistan route, with connections to Central Asia and the Caspian region.

Additionally, Rashid Meredov and Shehbaz Sharif discussed other areas of mutual interest.

The Turkmen delegation is in Pakistan to participate as an honorary guest in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of Government Council meeting.
