A national training seminar organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) focused on aquaculture feed formulation, production, and farm management, bringing together experts and industry representatives in Ashgabat. The event took place on December 19-20 and was part of the FAO project TCP/TUK/3902, titled “Development of the Aquaculture Feed Supply Chain and Efficiency in Aquatic Animal Health Management,” as reported by the State Veterinary Service of Turkmenistan.
The training sessions were led by FAO international expert Thomas Shipton, a specialist in the development and production of fish feed. Participants included representatives from various ministries, Turkmenistan’s Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and national aquafeed producers.
The head of the international department of the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture, Arslan Soltanmyradov, emphasized the relevance of the seminar for the development of aquaculture in his speech. He noted the importance of implementing modern technologies in feed production and their impact on the productivity of aquaculture enterprises, as well as on environmental sustainability.
The seminar’s program focused on improving the skills of fish farmers and feed producers, developing cost-effective and high-quality aquafeeds tailored to specific species, and enhancing feeding management practices on farms.
A key goal of the seminar is to make locally produced aquafeeds more accessible and of higher quality, which is expected to contribute to the growth of Turkmenistan’s aquaculture sector.
