Several significant documents were adopted at the UN following Turkmenistan's initiative at the end of 2024 and are now available in the six UN languages as official materials of the 79th session of the General Assembly, as announced by the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN on Tuesday.
The documents include the resolution titled Zone of Peace, Trust, and Cooperation in Central Asia, the final declaration of the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport meeting, and the summary report of the International Conference of Experts on Promoting Energy Connectivity and Sustainable Development.
The UN General Assembly earlier on December 2 unanimously adopted the resolution Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia, initiated by Turkmenistan, during its 79th session.
Turkmenistan became a member of the United Nations on March 2, 1992, just a few months after gaining independence. Since joining the UN, the country has actively participated in international activities, supporting initiatives focused on peace, security, and sustainable development. A crucial aspect of Turkmenistan's diplomatic practice is its stance on neutrality, officially recognized by the UN in 1995.
