Jennet Garlyyeva, an individual entrepreneur from Ashgabat, successfully combines ancient craft traditions with modern technologies in her camel wool fabric business.
Her venture began as a personal hobby and transformed into a successful family enterprise inspired by her mother, Shasenem, as reported by the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan on Wednesday.
Using traditional wooden looms once employed in Turkmen yurts, Jennet continues the weaving traditions, creating unique fabrics from natural camel wool. She handles all production stages — from shearing one-humped camels to the weaving process — by hand. Her products feature natural shades such as cream, honey, and reddish tones, and she uses only natural components, like pomegranate seeds, for dyeing, ensuring the ecological quality of her materials.
The business has significantly expanded its production since it was founded in 2018. In addition to family members, many home-based workers from rural areas now contribute. Modern looms speed up production while improving quality. The artisans produce up to 100 linear meters of fabric each month, offering a range that includes clothing items like jackets, vests, and scarves, as well as home goods such as blankets, cushions, and bedspreads.
Jennet Garlyyeva's products have gained demand abroad. She exports her items to EU countries, including Italy, France, and the Netherlands, where unique Turkmen fabrics have received high praise.
The main goal of Jennet's business is to preserve and develop the cultural traditions of Turkmenistan by popularizing ethnographic design and facilitating cultural exchange through her products. In the future, she plans to open a workshop to teach the art of weaving and demonstrate the process of creating camel fabrics to anyone interested.
