Kazakhstan has begun implementing a project to create a fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) that will pass through Turkmenistan. The project is currently under discussion, as reported by the official media of Turkmenistan on Tuesday.
The FOCL will provide internet access to the Persian Gulf, also covering Afghanistan and Iran. This will create new opportunities to improve telecommunications in the region.
At the same time, they are laying the FOCL along the bottom of the Caspian Sea. Kazakhtelecom and Azertelecom have established a joint venture with equal participation for the project.
The fiber-optic technology uses light pulses that travel through thin fibers made of glass or plastic. Thanks to the principle of total internal reflection, the signal is transmitted with minimal loss, ensuring high speed and large bandwidth.
