International experts conducted an imPACT review mission in Ashgabat and Dashoguz Province, from September 8 to 13, 2025, to assess Turkmenistan’s cancer care system and develop practical recommendations for its enhancement. The mission brought together specialists from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
During the visit, the experts evaluated key areas of oncology care, including cancer prevention and early detection, diagnostics, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, palliative care, access to medicines, supply chains, and workforce training.
Representatives of the international organizations visited hospitals, research institutions, universities, and primary health care facilities — including the Scientific and Clinical Center of Oncology, the Dashoguz Oncology Center, the Scientific and Clinical Center for Maternal and Child Health.

The mission also included consultations with UN representatives, civil society, and community organizations on issues related to health care development, financing, prevention, and improving policies and services at the community level.
At the final meeting, the experts presented strategic recommendations that will serve as a foundation for the further development of cancer care services in Turkmenistan.
From September 10 to 12, a three-day technical workshop on tuberculosis diagnostics was held at the Central Laboratory of the Center for Infectious Disease Control.
