Projects Involving U.S. Companies in Turkmenistan Near $45 Billion
National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gives an interview to Al Arabiya.

Hundreds of economic projects involving U.S. companies have been completed or are underway in Turkmenistan, with their total value approaching $45 billion, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in an interview with Al Arabiya during a visit to the United States. Turkmen state media reported the remarks Saturday.

Berdimuhamedov said leading U.S. corporations have operated successfully in the Turkmen market for many years, with activities spanning the fuel and energy sector, transport, power generation, software technologies, agriculture, the food industry and other fields. Turkmenistan values this cooperation and intends to continue creating favorable conditions for its expansion, he said.

Among the companies actively cooperating with Turkmenistan, he named John Deere, General Electric, Case, Boeing, Coca-Cola, Sikorsky and Caterpillar, noting that the list is not exhaustive.

Berdimuhamedov said the potential for cooperation between the two countries remains far from fully realized, particularly in diversifying the national economy, introducing high-tech production and implementing large-scale infrastructure initiatives at both national and international levels.

Turkmenistan is interested in expanding the inflow of U.S. investment and advanced technologies to support innovative and knowledge-intensive industries, he said, adding that significant opportunities also exist in the power sector, digital and logistics services, as well as education and workforce training.

He noted that Turkmenistan’s geopolitical and geo-economic position enables the country to serve as a bridge between Europe and Asia and, via the Caspian Sea, to provide access to the Black and Mediterranean seas and the Middle East. This, he said, underpins the country’s balanced approach to international cooperation and foreign policy, based on its status of permanent neutrality.

During the U.S. visit, the Turkmen side intends to use opportunities to establish direct contacts between Turkmenistan and the state of Florida and to reach agreements in business, investment and trade, he said.

Concluding the interview, Berdimuhamedov expressed appreciation for the meeting and said Turkmenistan views the United States as a friendly nation and a reliable partner.
