Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced Friday that Turkmenistan will commission a new cargo vessel, Menzil, later this year with the participation of South Korean partners and local specialists. The announcement was made during a ceremony in Turkmenbashi marking the maiden voyage of the Gadamly dry cargo ship.

The head of state noted that the commissioning of cargo vessels contributes to the further expansion of the national merchant fleet’s capabilities, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.

The Turkmen president emphasized that the new vessels will increase cargo volumes shipped, received and transported in transit through the Turkmenbashi International Seaport. According to the head of state, the vessels operating routes to Caspian littoral countries will make a significant contribution to the country’s economic development.

Built at the Balkan Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Yard, the Gadamly vessel is designed for transporting dry cargo. The ship has a carrying capacity of 6,100 tons. Equipped with modern technologies, the vessel is capable of transporting 240 cargo containers weighing 20 tons each.
