National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday during a visit to Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan.
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the dynamic development of bilateral relations across various areas based on the principles of friendship, trust and mutual understanding, and emphasized the importance of continuing intergovernmental dialogue, according to Turkmenistan’s state media.
During the call, Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan continues to develop multifaceted and systematic cooperation with Russia, as well as dialogue within multilateral formats in the spirit of strategic partnership. In this context, the National Leader of the Turkmen people highlighted the significance of international events to be held during Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States this year.
According to the report, Putin is expected to participate in the CIS Council of Heads of State meeting scheduled for October 2026.
The two sides noted that Turkmenistan and Russia have successfully implemented bilateral agreements across various sectors for many years. They also highlighted ongoing exchanges of experience in several fields.
Trade and economic cooperation remains an important part of the Turkmen-Russian agenda, while cultural and humanitarian ties continue to represent a significant area of bilateral interaction.
Berdimuhamedov also pointed to the steady development of cooperation in science and education and put forward several proposals in those fields.
At the conclusion of the conversation, Berdimuhamedov and Putin wished each other good health, well-being and success in their state activities, as well as peace, prosperity and welfare for the peoples of Turkmenistan and Russia.
