Turkmenistan Ready to Expand Cooperation With China on Major Projects

Turkmenistan is ready to jointly advance cooperation with China on major projects, including the development of natural gas fields, as well as expanding interaction in trade and transport connectivity. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday in New York.

According to Xinhua, Wang Yi said China is ready to implement agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries, promote cooperation on key projects, and inject new momentum into bilateral relations.

The two sides also expressed support for strengthening coordination and backing each other’s key initiatives within the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership.

Wang Yi noted that the visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to China in March this year helped deepen mutual trust and friendship between the leaders of the two countries.

For his part, Rashid Meredov emphasized the importance of upholding the UN Charter, as well as reforming and improving the global governance system.

According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the countries maintain deep political mutual trust, actively develop high-level contacts, and demonstrate steady momentum in practical cooperation.

Meredov also took part in a high-level open debate of the United Nations Security Council.
