Construction of the 153-kilometer Serhetabat-Herat gas pipeline, a key section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, is steadily approaching its final stage. Geodetic survey and exploration work along the route has been completed and the results were submitted to the project owner and contractors. Technical design documents and construction drawings have been prepared in line with international standards.
So far, 120 kilometers of the 1,422-millimeter-diameter pipe required for the entire route had been delivered to the construction site. Supplies are continuing as the project approaches its final stages. Of the 25 contracts signed for the project’s material and technical supplies, the majority have already been fully fulfilled. Most of the certified equipment has cleared customs and been delivered to the construction site in Afghanistan, the Watan news program reported Monday.
Construction and installation work is being carried out with nearly 300 modern specialized machines. So far, 140 kilometers of the pipeline route have been leveled and a 123-kilometer inspection road has been built. Welding and installation work has been completed along 117 kilometers of the pipeline, while welded sections are being tested in stages using water pressure.
Temporary residential camps have also been built at the 12-kilometer and 86-kilometer points of the pipeline to provide workers with the necessary living conditions.
