The second phase of Arkadag City, Turkmenistan’s first “smart” city, will open and be commissioned in 2027, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan and National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said during a meeting of the Halk Maslahaty held Wednesday in Ashgabat, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Arkadag City, located at the foot of the Kopetdag Mountains, is a major urban development project and said innovative technologies and digital systems are being widely used in the city. National Leader noted that a pilot solar power plant project is currently being implemented in the city.
Construction of the second phase of Arkadag City currently includes residential buildings as well as enterprises for producing food, industrial, pharmaceutical and medical products. Construction is also continuing on a complex of facilities that includes a secondary school specializing in foreign languages, a kindergarten and a sports building as part of the city’s second phase. The facilities will create broad opportunities for young people to receive an education and develop physically.
Education in various subjects and educational activities aimed at developing young people’s talents are also planned at the secondary school and kindergarten being built with funds from the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted organizational preparations should be carried out to hold the opening ceremony of the second phase of Arkadag City at a high level, adding that preparations for the significant event should begin now.
