Iran plans to begin construction of the Etrek–Gumdag road in Turkmenistan within the next one to two months, the IRNA news agency reported, citing Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh following her two-day visit to Turkmenistan.

Sadegh said the road project was discussed during meetings with Turkmen officials as part of talks on agreements reached during previous bilateral visits and their implementation. She also noted that an Iranian company would carry out the construction work. The project could help facilitate truck traffic and improve road connections between the two countries.

According to IRNA, Sadegh also noted positive progress in cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran in rail transport, particularly at border terminals. Taking into account Turkmenistan’s role in transporting cargo entering Iran, the minister stressed the particular importance of expanding cooperation in this area.

Sadegh visited Turkmenistan to attend the International Women’s Dialogue, “The Role of Women in Preserving Peace and Achieving Sustainable Development,” held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. During her visit, she met with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Parliament Speaker Dunyagozel Gulmanova.
