Ashgabat hosted the fifth meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijan commission on economic cooperation, where the parties discussed the development of car-ferry and rail-ferry services between the two countries.

During the meeting on Friday, the parties also discussed the ways to intensify the work for the implementation of transport operations through airports of the two countries.

The parties considered the possibilities of increasing trade and creating joint ventures of various profiles. In particular, the opening of trading houses in the capitals of two countries and the creation of Turkmen-Azerbaijani business council.

The sides highlighted the potential of energy cooperation between two countries. With large hydrocarbon reserves and modern industry infrastructure, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan agreed to work on diversifying energy supply routes to world markets as it opens up great prospects for cooperation in this area.

The parties also noted the importance of international transport corridor Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey (Lapis lazuli) with access to Europe.

The parties agreed to hold the sixth meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijani commission for economic cooperation in Baku in 2020.
