Leaders Held Bilateral Talks Before CIS Summit
The meeting of Council of Heads of CIS States takes place at Ashgabat's Oguzkent hotel.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Friday met with the leaders of several states, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the meeting of Council of Heads of CIS States.

During the talks of the Head of State with President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan before the CIS meeting, a productive exchange of views on bilateral cooperation, as well as within the Commonwealth, took place.

Ashgabat hosted the Summit of the CIS Heads of State as the capital of the country presiding over the Commonwealth on October 11. The decision to assign the CIS chairman to Turkmenistan in 2019 was made by the supreme body of the association - the Council of CIS Heads of State on September 28, 2018 in Dushanbe.

The adoption of this decision was facilitated by the fact that Turkmenistan successfully chaired the CIS in 2012.

Turkmenistan has focused its efforts on strengthening and developing traditional interstate relations. In this regard, the Concept of the Chairmanship of Turkmenistan in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2019 were developed and presented to the CIS Executive Committee.

Chairmanship of Turkmenistan in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2019 will be in accordance with the fundamental documents of the CIS and directed to consistent realization of previously adopted international agreements and decisions, supplementing of the substantive part of the agenda cooperation.
