Turkmen President Calls for Coordinating CIS Efforts on Afghan Issues
Turkmen President emphasized that Afghanistan-partner states should assume active role in the implementation of economic projects.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov outlined Turkmenistan’s position on Afghan issues and called for coordinating the efforts of the CIS to address the problems in Afghanistan at the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Ashgabat on Friday.

In this regard, the President of Turkmenistan emphasized that one of the important areas of cooperation was a systematic joint effort to ensure peace, security and stability, and effective partnership in countering modern challenges and threats.

At the same time, Turkmen President emphasized that Afghanistan-partner states should assume active role in the implementation of economic projects, aimed at creating and strengthening the energy, transport, communication and industrial foundations of the Afghan economy.

Turkmen Leader noted that with this aim Turkmenistan implements a number of international projects with Afghan partners such as the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the high-voltage power line and the fiber-optic communication line along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route.

The Head of State defined the main vectors of coordinated work of the CIS in the Afghan direction and called for CIS Ministers of Foreign Affairs to hold political consultations in the near future regarding this issue.
